美國眾議員班提法利歐（Kerry Bentivolio）本月17日致函菲律賓駐美大使庫西亞（Jose Cuisia），呼籲菲方就台灣漁船遭菲海防隊掃射事件，儘速回應台灣各項要求。
 
「中央社」報導，班提法利歐表示，中華民國及其人民對菲國粗暴，違反國際法的行徑感到憤怒，且對菲國仍未正式道歉及啟動調查感到不妥。中華民國與菲律賓同為美國盟邦，南海紛爭頻繁，美方不願見到兩個崇尚和平的國家陷入紛爭。
 
他認為，菲國對台灣要求雖有若干回應，但在賠償家屬及菲方代表是否獲政府充分授權等問題上仍不明確。他呼籲菲國政府應誠摯回應台灣要求，包括正式道歉、進行調查、與死者家屬解決賠償問題等。
 
另外，班提法利歐也以近期台灣與日本簽署漁業協議為例，敦促菲國與中華民國政府簽署漁業協議，以解決爭端。
